At the outset of this project, which was commissioned for the renovation of both the exterior and interior façades, we encountered an interior ceiling that had already been partially constructed with a steel framing system. In accordance with the client’s request and considering the investment already made, we were required to proceed within the constraints of this existing structure.

( Several key challenges shaped the design process:

1- The limited building height in relation to the adjacent street restricted the possibility of volumetric projections on the façade.

2- Given the age and structural limitations of the building, the façade needed to be designed as a lightweight system.

3- The partially completed ceiling had to be seamlessly integrated with both the interior and exterior architectural language. )

Ultimately, the design strategy was defined by eliminating any external projections and incorporating lightweight aluminum barcode-inspired forms across the building envelope. These elements allowed us to subtly increase the perceived height of the project and improve its urban visibility from both adjacent streets. The rhythmic barcode pattern filtered and directed controlled natural light into the space, generating dynamic and evolving shadow plays throughout the day. This architectural vocabulary was extended into the interior, where the ceiling design and the functional organization of the space were aligned with the same language, resulting in a cohesive and responsive architectural solution tailored to the project’s specific needs.
